Description

Discover Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada’s oldest and largest state park, covering nearly 42,000 acres and designated a National Natural Landmark in 1968. The park is named for its red sandstone formations created by shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs. These formations often appear to be on fire when reflecting sunlight.

Located 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas at elevations between 2,000 and 2,600 feet, the park borders Lake Mead National Recreation Area near the Virgin River confluence. Access is via Valley of Fire Highway, a Nevada Scenic Byway that passes through the Moapa River Indian Reservation.

The park features numerous petroglyphs, notably at Mouse’s Tank and Atlatl Rock, where they are easily accessible. Valley of Fire’s striking landscape has been used in many films, TV shows, commercials, and music videos, including notable titles such as Total Recall, Star Trek Generations, and Transformers.
