Description
Red Rock Canyon in Clark County, Nevada, is located about 15 miles west of Las Vegas. The conservation area features large red sandstone formations known as the Keystone Thrust, with walls reaching up to 3,000 feet high. Popular activities include hiking and rock climbing. The highest point in the park is La Madre Mountain, standing at 8,154 feet.
State Route 159 runs through a frequently visited valley often mistaken as Red Rock Canyon. From this route, visitors can view the Wilson Cliffs, a massive rock formation to the west.
Nearby, the internationally recognized art installation Seven Magic Mountains by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone consists of seven towers of brightly colored stacked boulders over 30 feet tall. Located near Jean Dry Lake and Interstate 15, 10 miles south of Las Vegas, this piece highlights human creativity within the desert landscape. Originally scheduled for a two-year exhibition, the installation remains on display due to popular demand.
