The tour begins at the Visitor Center, where the valley’s geological history and desert stories are introduced. Visitors gain insight into the formation and significance of the area.
Next, the ancient petroglyphs of Atlatl Rock reveal legends carved into stone, especially vivid in the morning light.
The nearby Cabins stand as quiet reminders of the past, providing a peaceful atmosphere reflective of the surrounding desert.
Elephant Rock follows, a natural sandstone formation shaped by wind and erosion over centuries.
At Rainbow Vista, the landscape changes into a colorful display of rock and light, best appreciated as the sun approaches sunset.
In winter months only, the Fire Wave formation is accessible. Its flowing patterns of sand and rock create a distinctive and photogenic natural feature. Note that Fire Wave is usually closed from June 1 to September 30, with some closures starting as early as May 15 for safety reasons.
The tour concludes with the sunset illuminating the valley in warm tones, offering a memorable finale to the day’s experience.
