Day Trips in Las Vegas

If you’re spending any time in Las Vegas, don’t just stick to the Strip , some of the best stuff is a short drive away. Seriously, you can be standing at the edge of the Grand Canyon or wandering through an old mining town within a couple of hours. And no, you don’t need to get up before dawn or sign up for an expensive tour to do it.

One of my favorite quick escapes is Red Rock Canyon. It’s less than 30 minutes west of the city, and the morning light across those red sandstone cliffs is unreal. Bring water and comfy shoes, because even a casual hike here beats anything you’ll find on the Strip. Or try Boulder City, a tiny place with some cool history tied to Hoover Dam. Grab a coffee at the local Roasters and just imagine the builders who came through here decades ago.

Pro tip: traffic leaving Vegas can be a pain on weekends, especially heading out to popular spots like Mt. Charleston or Valley of Fire. Hit those earlier or later in the day, and you’ll skip most of the crowds. And if you’re visiting in summer, a trip up Mt. Charleston is a life-saver , temperatures can be 20 degrees cooler up there, a refreshing break from the desert heat. Trust me, these day trips totally change the vibe of your Vegas trip.
